Yard Capability & Project Reference

This page sets out what we take on and how a project is documented. We do not publish client names, vessel names or photographs of other owners’ boats — confidentiality is standard in this business and a public gallery of someone else’s refit is not ours to publish. What we can show is the structure of the work.

Vessel range we work with

Typical projects are liveaboard and expedition vessels in the range that serves Komodo commercially: traditional timber phinisi, steel and aluminium expedition hulls, converted working vessels, and motor yachts being adapted for dive or expedition service. Very large vessels and very small day boats sit outside our normal scope, mainly because the facilities that serve them are different.

Refit and conversion scopes

  • Structural — frame, floor and keelson renewal, replanking and plate renewal, deck recore, bulwark rebuild, hull extension with calculation.
  • Propulsion — repower, gearbox and shaft renewal, propeller matching, stern gear and steering overhaul, bow and stern thruster installation.
  • Stabilisation — gyroscopic and fin retrofit assessment, foundation design, electrical and hydraulic integration.
  • Dive and deck — dive deck layout, tank racks, rinse and camera stations, compressor and nitrox installation, tender handling and garage.
  • Systems — generators, distribution, solar and battery, watermakers, HVAC, refrigeration, fire detection and suppression, bilge and sanitation.
  • Interior — cabin and salon rebuild, joinery, insulation and noise treatment, galley and crew accommodation.

Scope logic and sequencing are explained on the refit page.

New-build supervision packages

  • Technical brief only — a specification document you can issue to multiple yards for comparable quotations.
  • Brief plus tender management — issue, clarification handling and normalised quotation comparison.
  • Contract review — specification precedence, variation procedure, milestones, title and risk, warranty, acceptance protocol.
  • Periodic supervision — inspection at defined hold points with written and photographic records.
  • Resident supervision — continuous presence for larger or higher-risk builds.
  • Trial and delivery — trial protocol, attendance, punch list, documentation handover.

Detail on the new-build page.

Survey services

Pre-purchase hull and machinery survey, pre-docking survey to define a work scope, condition survey for insurance or finance, and attendance at statutory or class survey. Covered on the survey and sea trial page.

What a project file contains

Every project we run produces the same documented set, and an owner should expect this from any competent supervisor:

  1. Operating profile — guest and crew numbers, trip pattern, dive load, season, cruising range.
  2. Technical brief or survey report — the factual base the whole project rests on.
  3. Specification schedule — space by space and system by system, with makes, ratings or explicit equivalence rules.
  4. Compliance map — registration, certification, passenger capacity, safety schedule and crew requirement, tracked against the physical build.
  5. Budget and milestone schedule — USD, tied to verifiable physical progress.
  6. Inspection records — dated hold-point reports with photographs, issued to the owner as they happen.
  7. Variation register — every change, who authorised it, what it cost, what it did to the programme.
  8. Trial protocol and results — agreed before trial, recorded on the day.
  9. Punch list and closure record.
  10. Handover pack — drawings, manuals, certificates, spares list, warranty documentation.

If a yard or supervisor cannot show you this structure before you sign, that is the finding.

What we decline

We decline refit quotations without a survey, supervision mandates where the signed contract and the agreed price are already inconsistent unless the owner accepts that in writing, hull extensions without calculation, conversions where the structure will not support certified passenger service, and any arrangement where we would be paid by both sides.

Discussing a project

Send the vessel details or the operating profile to sales@komodoluxury.com or WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875. Planning ranges are on the cost guide; docking and slot constraints are on the Labuan Bajo yard page.

Frequently asked questions

What size and type of vessels do you work on?

Liveaboard and expedition vessels in the size range that serves Komodo commercially — traditional timber phinisi, steel and aluminium expedition hulls, converted working vessels and motor yachts being adapted for dive service. Very large vessels and small day boats sit outside our normal scope.

Why is there no project gallery with client boats?

Confidentiality. Vessel and owner details are not ours to publish, and a gallery of other people’s refits proves little. Instead we publish the structure of the work and the documentation an owner should expect.

What documents should a supervised project produce?

Operating profile, technical brief or survey report, specification schedule, compliance map, USD budget with milestone schedule, dated hold-point inspection records, a variation register, an agreed trial protocol with results, a punch list closure record, and a handover pack of drawings, manuals, certificates and spares lists.

What work do you refuse?

Refit quotations without a survey, hull extensions without calculation, conversions where the structure cannot support certified passenger service, supervision of a contract whose price and specification are already inconsistent unless the owner accepts that in writing, and any arrangement paid by both sides.

Can you supply just the technical brief?

Yes. A brief-only engagement produces a specification document you can issue to multiple yards for comparable quotations, and it is useful even if you never engage us further.
